The company
 
My client is a global music corporation and a key player in the industry representing some of the biggest Artists and Bands in the world.   
 
They are currently on the lookout for a superstar Royalties and Accounts payable assistant on a 12 month fixed term contract.  Perfect role for a newly graduated Accouting or commerce candidate!

The core activity of the role is to Provide support to the Royalties team, including facilitation of payments, journal processing, reconciliations, statement preparation, meta data support and financial analysis.

The role
Accounts Payable

  • Facilitate payment of any A&R amounts to artists and labels, including coding and reconciliations to Accounting System.
  • Arrange royalty payments to artists and labels as necessary
  • Coding of intercompany royalty invoices and receipts
  • Ensure integrity of AP transactions within ledger 

Royalty Accounting

  • Posting of artist statement corrections and reconciliation of statement to JDE
  • Preparation and posting of ad hoc journals as required
  • Ad hoc financial analysis,  as required 

Accounting Systems

  • Assist with the input and maintenance of data in royalty systems
  • Creation of artist sub-ledgers within the Accounting System
  • Ensure integrity of salesforce database 

Artist Reporting

  • Preparation of artist statements and ensure delivery within contractual timelines
  • Clearing of royalty system suspense items
  • Identification and processing of royalty system updates

Metadata Support

  • Maintain release data within Salesforce
  • Source correct Label Copy (internal and external)
  • Maintain Label Copy data in royalty system for Australia and New Zealand
  • Setup Australia and New Zealand new releases within royalty system 

Other

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist and initiate ad-hoc and potential projects that will enhance the Royalty systems and functions in Australia and New Zealand
  • Flexibility required in working hours due to cyclical nature of workload and existence of penalties for failing to comply with contractual accounting deadlines

The ideal Candidate
Technical

  • Music repertoire knowledge of both local and international catalogues
  • Strong analytical system skills - fully conversant with Microsoft applications, particularly Excel
  • Interpret recording and licensing agreements, and extract salient accounting and business points from document(s)
  • Strong organisational skills due to high volume of paperwork generated within royalty administration    

Business

  • Minimum two years commercial experience in high volume processing environment
  • Knowledge of industry is ideal, including appreciation of issues which directly affect the protection of copyright and ownership of catalogue repertoire
  • Ability to relate administration of copyright and royalty to the objectives and time pressures of the business 

Human Relations

  • Excellent communication skills in liaising with personnel both internally and externally
  • Uses personal initiative to resolve issues and maintain control of personal workloads
  • Ability to work under pressure whilst remaining focused on workload objectives
  • Capable of undertaking long periods of data entry whilst remaining alert to potential documentation problems and input errors 
     

Qualifications Required:

  • Secondary                                   HSC or equivalent
    Tertiary / T.A.F.E.                     Desire to undertake
