Job description

The role will involve preparation of purchase orders, monitoring supply sources and negotiating terms with suppliers. My client is a mid-tier civil construction business operating in Australia’s infrastructure market. They currently provide services in the areas of road and bridges, concrete structures, rail, communications, electrical, tunnels, and traffic management across several states and territories.


The duties for this role include:-
 
Key Responsibilities:-

 

  • Receiving and checking purchase requests against inventory records and stock on hand including in liaison with Warehouse Manager
  • Communicate, liaise and negotiate and build a rapport with suppliers as the first point of contact for the company
  • Reviewing and management of supplier relationships
  • Sourcing equipment, obtaining competitive quotes, and presenting to project team for approvals within set time frames
  • Liaising with Warehouse Manager in managing stock levels at our warehouses including forecasting
  • Maintaining Product and Supplier Information
  • Source alternative suppliers when necessary
  • Proactively liaise between suppliers and staff to resolve any purchasing/supply issues
  • Work with Project Engineers to timely procure materials for the completion of jobs
 
Requirements of the successful candidate:-
 

 

  • Experience working within the construction / engineering industry is considered ideal with (i) 2-5 years in a similar purchasing role, and (ii) familiar with a wide variety of product knowledge
  • analytical thinking, business awareness, negotiation skills and stock take as well as an understanding of Inventory Control
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of initiative with the ability to plan, prioritise and multitask whilst working to tight deadline
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
