Assistant Management Accountant | Higher Education | $95,000–$105,000 + Super | Permanent

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has become available for an Assistant Management Accountant to join a leading higher education organisation on a permanent basis. This role is ideal for someone looking to further develop their business partnering skills while gaining exposure to budgeting, financial analysis, and stakeholder engagement within a complex and purpose-driven environment.

The Role

Working closely with a portfolio of faculties and business units, you will act as a trusted finance partner, supporting managers with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. A key focus of the role will be analysing salaries and wages, helping stakeholders understand workforce costs, headcount movements, vacancies, restructures, and other staffing changes that impact budgets.
This is a hands-on position where you'll own the budgeting process for your portfolio, provide meaningful financial insights, and partner with academic and professional stakeholders to support informed decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with faculties and business units to provide financial support and advice
  • Prepare and manage annual budgets and forecasts
  • Analyse salaries and wages, including headcount movements, vacancies, new starters, departures, and organisational changes
  • Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand workforce requirements and financial impacts
  • Prepare management reports and deliver actionable financial insights
  • Support continuous improvement across budgeting and reporting processes
About the Candidate
  • Experience in a Management Accountant, Assistant Management Accountant, or Finance Business Partnering role
  • Full exposure to the budgeting process, even if managing a smaller portfolio
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial and workforce data
  • Confident communicator who enjoys partnering with a range of stakeholders
  • Proactive, inquisitive, and solutions-focused approach
  • Strong Excel skills and experience within higher education or another complex organisation will be highly regarded
