Cost Accountant | North Brisbane | Permanent | Site-basedWe are delighted to be partnering with a well established manufacturing business with a strong reputation across the commercial construction industry.
With a healthy pipeline of secured work and continued growth, the business is seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to play a critical role in strengthening project profitability, operational reporting and commercial decision-making across the organisation.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working closely with operations, production and project teams, not just sitting behind month-end reporting and in the back office.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will take ownership of end-to-end project costing across multiple live commercial projects, ensuring accurate visibility across materials, labour, subcontractors, manufacturing overheads and WIP.
You will work closely with Estimating, Production and Operations to improve margin performance, identify cost overruns early and provide meaningful commercial insights to support decision-making across the business.
This role would suit someone from a manufacturing, construction, fit-out or project-based environment who understands the realities of operational costing in a fast-paced business.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end job costing across multiple live projects
- Monitor estimated vs actual project costs across labour, materials, subcontractors and overheads
- Analyse project profitability and identify cost overruns or margin risks
- Prepare WIP, cost of sales and margin reporting
- Support Operations and Estimating teams with pricing and cost analysis
- Assist with month-end journals relating to inventory, labour allocation and overheads
- Improve costing systems, controls and reporting processes
- Partner closely with factory, site and management teams to drive commercial outcomes
- Support compliance requirements within a QBCC-regulated environment
- Proven experience in job costing within manufacturing, construction, or project-based environments
- Strong understanding of WIP, margin analysis and operational costing
- Comfortable partnering with operational and production stakeholders
- Strong commercial acumen with excellent attention to detail
- Advanced Excel capability and confidence analysing operational data
- Practical, hands-on approach with the ability to work autonomously
- Stable, established business with a very strong market reputation
