Job description

Cost Accountant
Brisbane
Circa $120,000 + Super
Full-time, Permanent

Charterhouse is working with a well-established commercial manufacturing business delivering bespoke solutions across the commercial sectors.

The business has a strong pipeline of work and is focused on improving margin control, cost visibility, and data-driven decision-making across its operations.
Due to continued growth, they are seeking a hands-on Cost Accountant to join the finance team and work closely with operations, production, and project teams.

This is a key role responsible for end-to-end job costing across multiple live projects, ensuring accurate visibility of materials, labour, subcontractor, and overhead costs. The role will play a critical part in improving cost control discipline, enhancing estimating accuracy, and supporting better commercial outcomes across the business.

Key responsibilities include managing job costing from award through to completion, maintaining and analysing estimated versus actual costs, monitoring job margins, and identifying cost overruns early. The role will also support production and project teams with cost data and margin analysis, assist with WIP and cost of sales reporting, and support month-end processes including journals, accruals, and cost allocations.

The Cost Accountant will also play a key role in improving costing systems, controls, and reporting processes, while acting as a finance liaison between factory, site teams, and management.

The successful candidate will have proven experience in job costing or project-based accounting. Strong understanding of WIP, margin analysis, and cost control is essential, along with experience working closely with operational and production teams. High attention to detail, strong Excel capability, and the ability to work with operational data are also required.

The role will support QBCC-related financial reporting requirements and contribute to improving financial governance and operational visibility. Experience in QBCC-regulated environments, MYOB EXO or similar ERP systems, and manufacturing or construction job costing systems will be highly regarded, along with exposure to R&D claims or project manufacturing environments.

This is an opportunity to join a stable and growing business where you will work closely with operations and have a direct impact on cost control, margin improvement, and commercial performance.
