Financial Accountant – NSW Government Hybrid Working | Long-Term Contract Opportunities | Sydney CBD & Western Sydney

The opportunities

These positions will see you responsible for supporting core financial accounting activities, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements, and maintaining financial integrity across large and complex organisations.

Working closely with Finance Managers and senior stakeholders, you will contribute to month-end and year-end processes, reconciliations, statutory reporting, audit preparation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

These roles suit technically strong accountants who enjoy working within structured environments and can operate effectively across fast-paced government settings.
  
Key responsibilities
  • Prepare monthly financial reports, journals, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure data integrity
  • Assist with statutory reporting and compliance requirements
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Prepare variance analysis and management reporting
  • Coordinate audit preparation and liaise with external stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with NSW Treasury and accounting standards requirements
  • Identify and implement process improvement initiatives across finance functions
  
Skills & experience
  • CA/CPA qualified or working towards completion
  • Previous experience within Financial Accounting or Management Accounting roles
  • Strong technical accounting and reconciliation capability
  • Experience working within large or complex organisations
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capability
  • Previous NSW Government or public sector experience will be highly regarded
  • Experience using large ERP systems such as SAP, TechOne, or Oracle is advantageous
