Job description
Payroll and Accounts Officer | Permanent | Brisbane SouthsideCharterhouse is partnering with a well-established organisation based in Brisbane to recruit a Payroll & Accounts Officer to join their finance team. This is a hands-on, varied role supporting the Financial Controller and playing a key part in ensuring smooth payroll operations and day-to-day accounting support.
This role will suit someone who enjoys working in a collaborative environment, has strong attention to detail, and is confident managing both payroll and general accounting responsibilities.
About the role
The Payroll & Accounts Officer will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll, along with providing broad accounting and administration support to the finance function. Acting as the key contact for payroll queries, you will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure all payroll and compliance obligations are met.
Key responsibilities include:
- End-to-end processing and reconciliation of payroll across fortnightly and monthly cycles
- Maintaining accurate payroll records, including employee data, leave, and entitlements
- Managing onboarding and termination processes
- Responding to payroll, superannuation, and leave enquiries
- Processing employee expenses and reimbursements
- Supporting Single Touch Payroll reporting and year-end reconciliations
- Managing superannuation payments and compliance
- Assisting with recruitment cost tracking and reporting
- Supporting general accounting tasks including bank reconciliations, payment runs, and credit card administration
- Assisting with accounts payable coverage when required
- Supporting subcontractor onboarding and general finance administration tasks
You will bring experience in payroll and accounting support, ideally within a fast-paced or project-based environment. Exposure to awards-based payroll will be highly regarded.
You will also have:
- Relevant accounting or payroll qualifications, or equivalent experience
- Strong knowledge of payroll processes and compliance requirements
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage across all levels of the business
- Strong Microsoft Office skills and confidence using finance systems
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- A proactive, team-oriented approach with a willingness to support broader finance functions
This is a great opportunity to join a supportive finance team where you’ll have exposure across both payroll and accounts, working closely with senior finance leadership in a stable and growing business.
If this sounds like a good fit, please contact Kerry Tostevin at Charterhouse for a confidential discussion.
