Payroll Officer – Local Government | Western Sydney | $45.79ph + Super | Contract Opportunity- Opportunity to join a well-established Local Council

About the organisation
We are partnering with a respected Local Council in Western Sydney to recruit a Payroll Officer to support their payroll function during a busy period.
This role offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative team environment while contributing to the accurate and timely processing of payroll for a large and diverse workforce.
The role
Reporting to the Payroll Team Leader, you will be responsible for supporting weekly payroll activities, ensuring payroll information is processed accurately and in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will possess strong payroll administration experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a high-volume environment.
Key responsibilities
- Review and process weekly timesheets, payroll adjustments, and employee payroll variations
- Maintain payroll records and accurately enter payroll data into the payroll system
- Process employee leave requests and ensure records are updated accordingly
- Review sick leave applications and ensure compliance with Council policies and procedures
- Monitor and maintain employee leave balances
- Perform payroll data validation and resolve discrepancies where required
- Assist with payroll reporting and month-end payroll activities
- Support the preparation of reports for superannuation, deductions, and other payroll-related obligations
- Respond to payroll enquiries from employees and internal stakeholders
- Contribute to payroll administration and process improvement initiatives
Skills & experience
- Previous experience in a Payroll Officer or Payroll Administration role
- Strong understanding of payroll processes and leave management
- Excellent attention to detail and data entry accuracy
- Experience working with payroll systems (Empower experience highly regarded)
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work within a high-volume and deadline-driven environment
- Previous Local Government experience will be highly regarded
