About the company  
 
This agile local government authority, based in the Inner suburbs has an opening for an Senior Employee Relations Advisor, initially on a 6 month contract, that could be extended further.

This role can either be full-time or 4 days per week for the right candidate.

The council offer flexible working, and you will have the opportunity to work 2 days from home once they have returned to office.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Provide high level technical expertise and advice and support to Management and HR Business Partners on a broad range of complex Employee and Industrial Relations matters, offering solutions in line with the Councils priorities and in accordance with relevant policy, legislation, industrial awards and departmental policy.
  • Take a lead role with complex investigations, disciplinary issues and grievances, and provide coaching and support to managers and employees involved in the process.
  • Work collaboratively across the HR function, and support the HR Business Partners with sound advice, counsel, coaching, and support with investigations and disciplinary matters.
  • Proactively navigate various workforce nuances to support the delivery and implementation of the new Enterprise Agreement
  • Assist Managers, Supervisors and other key stakeholders (e.g. Payroll) to interpret and ensure compliance with the Enterprise Agreement and other legislative requirement and Council policies and procedures.
  • Participate and be an active member in the Councils Consultative Committee, which may include the production of agendas and related papers.
  • Internal & external stakeholder engagement
  • Review existing and develop new policies in line with changing organisational needs and legislative requirements.
  • Represent the Council as appropriate in various Commissions and Tribunals.

You will have the following:  

  • Demonstrated ability to act as an internal consultant within the organisation and provide services that meet the needs and expectations of customers.
  • Sound knowledge of the Fair Work Act, Equal Opportunity legislation other relevant employment legislation, including lawful employment practices and compliance.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying Awards, agreements, policies, procedures and other industrial instruments.
  • Highly developed written, verbal and oral communication skills, with the ability to engage with staff at all levels.
  • A strong track record of demonstrating initiative, flexibility and contributing to a team.
  • Well-developed problem solving and investigative skills.
  • Experience facilitating meetings, workshops, and other information forums
