The role

Reporting to the Legal Manager, the Construction Associate can expect exposure from the off-set working on high profile transactions for developers, principals, governments, contractors, major subcontractors and leading consultants both locally and internationally. Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and negotiating proposed contracts and associated documents
  • Working on major tenders across rail, road, tunnel and infrastructure projects
  • Providing the business with front-end advice on our main construction projects
  • Identifying key project risks and preparing proposed solutions to project teams
  • Managing and providing instructions to external lawyers
  • Developing contracts for use by project teams and providing advice throughout the full life cycle of projects
  • Preparing various other types of contracts (services contracts, consortium agreements, joint venture agreements, alliance agreements, confidentiality agreements, teaming agreements)
  • Advising on the above and where necessary assisting with negotiations; and
  • Preparing sign-off advice to enable execution of contracts in accordance with corporate procedures


About you:

  • Practising lawyer with 4-8 years' experience ideally made up of private practice and in-house experience
  • Qualified to practice as a solicitor in New South Wales or other Australian jurisdiction - holding (or entitled to hold) current practising certificate
  • Excellent communication skills and legal drafting skills
  • Verbal reasoning skills - ability to interpret the precise meaning of written documents such as contracts, legislation, case decisions.
  • Risk assessment and risk mitigation skills - ability to identify risks/issues and offer practical commercially appropriate solutions to manage/ mitigate risks
  • Negotiation and Influencing skills
  • Resilience, personal drive and motivation
