Primary Purpose of the Role

The Business Partner, Communications and Engagement leads communication and stakeholder engagement services and initiatives for a designated region or portfolio within the Department. It is a pivotal role responsible for driving improved stakeholder outcomes and delivering sound advice, consistent with the agency’s strategic priorities, to enhance relationships and reputation. The role works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a consistent, strategic approach to communication, stakeholder, media and issues management is undertaken across the region/portfolio. The role provides guidance to the region/portfolio’s communication and engagement team to encourage collaboration, best practice and focus on achieving customer, stakeholder and agency outcomes.

Key Accountabilities
  • The Business Partner, Communications and Engagement, leads communication and stakeholder engagement services and initiatives for the Northern region within the Department. This includes projects and programs they are is delivering in the Northern LHD, South Eastern Sydney LHD and Sydney LHD.
  • The Business Partner provides leadership and guidance to communication and engagement staff within the region/portfolio to drive the efficient and effective delivery of communication and engagement services and initiatives.
  • They also play a pivotal role responsible for driving improved stakeholder outcomes (both internal and external), consistent with the agency’s strategic priorities to enhance relationships and reputation.
  • Foster effective working relationships to ensure a coordinated and consistent approach to community, stakeholder, media, and issues management is undertaken across the region/portfolio.
  • Lead the preparation and implementation of engaging and strategically aligned communication content, tools and materials across a broad range of online, social and traditional channels
  • Proactively identify stakeholder and reputation issues and manage the development of appropriate strategies and responses to minimise risk, ensuring timely escalation to internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in major infrastructure, government sector and/or large corporate organisation, and or/health.
  • IAP2 qualifications highly regarded, and current valid driver license is a pre-requisite.

  • Looking for a candidate with extensive ability to develop, deliver and evaluate communication programs and strategies for high profile, contentious and sensitive projects and issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build and maintain strategic stakeholder relationships both internal and external to the organisation.
  • Strong leadership and organisation skills including a high degree of initiative and flexibility, and the ability to manage resources to meet competing priorities.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Appropriate qualifications and senior level experience in communication, government relations, community and stakeholder relations, journalism or similar.
