The Project Engineer - Energy & HVAC at holds a pivotal position within the Councils engineering department, responsible for overseeing a range of projects related to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Reporting directly to the Principal Engineer, this role involves collaborating with internal stakeholders such as the engineering team, facilities management department, and finance department to ensure seamless project delivery within budgetary constraints and regulatory compliance. Externally, the Project Engineer engages with contractors, regulatory authorities, community members, and consultants to procure materials, obtain necessary approvals, address community concerns, and leverage external expertise. With a focus on technological advancements, sustainability practices, and stakeholder engagement, this role plays a crucial role in driving innovation and excellence in HVAC engineering while meeting the needs of the community served by the Council.
Key Accountabilities
- Project Management: Lead and manage projects related to HVAC systems, from conception through to completion. This includes overseeing design, installation, maintenance, and repair activities to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Technical Expertise: Apply your in-depth knowledge of HVAC systems to provide technical guidance and support to project teams. Conduct heating and cooling load calculations, determine airflow requirements, and design ductwork and piping systems as needed.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians within the team, leveraging your experience to foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal stakeholders, external contractors, and suppliers to effectively coordinate project delivery and ensure alignment with Council objectives.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure all HVAC projects adhere to relevant health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and Council policies. Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments to mitigate potential hazards.
- Budget and Resource Management: Assist in budget planning and resource allocation or HVAC projects, monitoring expenditure and resource usage to ensure projects are delivered within established constraints.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and innovation within the HVAC engineering function, driving efficiencies, and enhancing service delivery to Council and the community.
- Procurement: - Lead contract and procurement processes for nominated projects, ensuring the delivery of client objectives and compliance with NSW government and Council procurement project requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in HVAC engineering or Energy Field, preferably within a council, private or public sector environment.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, along with a strong understanding of building codes and industry standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proven leadership abilities, with experience in mentoring and developing engineering teams.
- Sound knowledge of health and safety regulations, environmental practices, and compliance requirements.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) accreditation (desirable).
