  • Local Government based in the eastern suburbs
  • Travel required to various council sites | Occasional 6am depot starts
 

A local council in Melbourne's east is seeking an experienced Health, Safety and Wellbeing Business Partner to join their People & Culture team on a contract basis through to August 2025.

This hands-on role will see you partnering with stakeholders across a range of operational and corporate settings to enhance safety culture, lead incident investigations, and deliver health and wellbeing initiatives. You’ll also play a key role in developing and supporting the Council’s Health and Safety Management System and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert HSW advice, training and support to staff, contractors and volunteers.
  • Lead incident investigations, risk assessments and implement corrective actions.
  • Promote safe work practices in line with Council's health and safety strategies.
  • Analyse safety data and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with legislative requirements and Council policies.
  • Build strong relationships across departments and provide coaching and guidance.
  • Participate in emergency management and business continuity activities.
About You:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar HSW generalist or advisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of OHS legislation, risk management and investigation techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport across all levels.
  • Proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused mindset.
  • A current driver’s licence and willingness to travel to other council sites.
  • Availability for occasional early morning (6am) starts at depots as required.
