  • Location: Local Government office just north of Melbourne’s CBD, close to public transport.
  • Role: Assist in meeting OHS obligations and implementing safe work practices, policies, and procedures.
About the Company

Our client, a Local Government entity located just north of Melbourne’s CBD, is seeking an OHS Advisor for an initial 3-month contract, with the possibility of long-term opportunities. This full-time position runs from early July to early October, working Monday to Friday. You will join the People and Safety Team, reporting to the Unit Manager, HR, Safety & Wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in meeting OHS obligations and implementing safe work practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Support the strategic direction of OHS practices and project implementation in conjunction with the Unit Manager, HR, Safety & Wellbeing.
  • Maintain and enhance the OHS system to promote consultative processes and improve safety performance.
  • Ensure OHS compliance under relevant legislation, including the OHS Act and Regulations, in collaboration with the Unit Manager, HR, Safety & Wellbeing.
  • Promote a healthy and safe work culture to reduce and prevent workplace injuries.
Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in OHS or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in an OHS role or within a similar organizational setting.
  • Ability to interpret and apply OHS legislation according to industry best practices.
  • Experience conducting worksite inspections, risk assessments, and OHS audits, and monitoring compliance with safety plans and statutory requirements.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to influence managers and staff to improve OHS performance.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in writing reports and correspondence, researching data, problem-solving, and providing alternative solutions.
  • Experience working collaboratively within a team-based culture.
