We’re partnering with a well established and growing accounting firm based in North Sydney that’s entering an exciting new phase. This newly created role is perfect for a hands-on Practice / Operations Manager who thrives in a fast-moving environment and wants to help shape the future of a business from the inside out.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Managing Partner, this is the firm’s first dedicated Practice/Operations role. You’ll oversee key business functions across operations, finance, HR, and systems, with a focus on improving efficiency, driving accountability, and supporting a positive, high-performing culture.
With three direct reports in the business support team, you’ll work closely with leadership to embed new systems, streamline workflows, and support the firm’s growth and future acquisitions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operational management of the firm across finance, HR, and administration.
  • Lead and mentor business support team members, fostering a collaborative and accountable culture.
  • Work with partners to implement and manage change initiatives, both process and people-focused.
  • Support financial operations, including assisting with the preparation of financial statements and internal reporting.
  • Manage and optimise firm systems and software including Xero Practice Manager (XPM), CRM platforms, Power BI, Excel, and Ignition.
  • Identify opportunities for greater efficiency and continuous improvement across business processes.
  • Coordinate team activities and cultural initiatives, ensuring alignment with the firm’s values and growth plans.
  • Play a key role in ensuring smooth communication and rhythm of accountability across the team and leadership.
About You

We’re looking for a calm, capable professional who can slot in smoothly, build trust quickly, and help guide the firm through change with empathy and confidence. You’ll need to be equally comfortable rolling up your sleeves as you are driving strategic discussions.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Practice or Operations Management role within an accounting firm.
  • Ideally a qualified accountant or someone with a strong accounting background.
  • Proven experience working with Xero Practice Manager (XPM); exposure to Power BI, Excel, Ignition, and CRMs is a plus.
  • Strong change management skills, understands the human side of change, not just project delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to articulate ideas clearly and work effectively with a busy, fast-paced leadership team.
  • Emotionally intelligent, agile, and comfortable managing competing priorities.
  • Confident leading an energetic team while maintaining respect and accountability across all levels.
  • A genuine team player who enjoys bringing culture to life through collaboration and engagement.
