Program Officer - NSW Government (Health)
  • Temp contract
  • Immediate start through to 5th May 2024 with view to extend
  • Gladesville location/Hybrid (2 days per week WFH)
  • $43.12ph + super
  • Full time, Monday to Friday, 38 hours per week
The Program Officer, Fitness to Practice provides expert advice, project and program support for the NSW Health Professional Councils’ regulatory program through providing case management for two high risk categories:
  • Practitioners whose conduct, performance or health suggest complex management so that more than one type of regulatory response may be required
  • Immediate action matters, to enable the Council to meet its statutory responsibilities in regard to practitioners who may put the health or safety of the public at risk
The position is Clerk Grade 5/6 and we are looking for candidates with experience in a similar role, providing high quality administrative support to boards/committees and delegates preferably within a regulatory environment. We require outstanding communication skills and someone with the ability to hit the ground running as this is a contract role with the possibility of extension.

Day to day responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Prepare quality briefs to facilitate consultation with Council within short time frames in relation to possible urgent immediate actions
  • Manage the administration of complex hearings, immediate actions matters, performance assessments and re-assessments
  • Provide assistance and advice to Council delegates conducting immediate action matters in relation to Council processes.
  • Work in consultation with Legal Officers, Monitoring and Program teams as required, ensuring outcomes of any immediate actions are handed over to relevant teams
  • Manage case load of practitioners who are subject to complaints that have been referred to more than one type of regulatory action/intervention (conduct, performance, health)
  • Coordinate concurrent processes and monitor the progress of the complaints
  • Liaising with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide up to date and accurate information to practitioners, complainants and/or relevant stakeholders regarding status of processes
  • Prepare written briefs, correspondence and other documentation required to facilitate Council/Committee decision-making, and/or to inform relevant stakeholders involved in assessments, panels and interviews
  • Assist with research, coordination and collation of statistical data and participate in the development and review of procedures and process in regards to the management of complaints by the Council, particularly in relation to fitness to practice.
Skills/Experience
  • Previous experience in a similar role is highly beneficial
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects and tasks with tight deadlines and strict benchmarks
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal, previous experience preparing correspondence and writing briefs would be ideal
  • Well developed organisational skills and proven ability to manage high volume workloads, to work autonomously and be proactive
  • High level of understanding of confidentiality and privacy requirements; ability to be sensitive and discreet in a range of situations
  • Ability to make decision and escalate serious matters which require urgent action
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Proficient in use of the Microsoft Office Suite and ability to pick up new systems
