Job description

The responsibilities of this role include

  • Provide leadership and direction to state-wide business stakeholders and effectively manage financial issues to ensure continuous effective service delivery and a performance based, innovative, responsive and accountable customer focused work culture 
  • The development, implementation and continual improvement of financial performance reporting for the business lines of business services including budget to actual performance and product activity reporting
  • The development of state-wide annual budget in consultation with business executives and operational managers to formulate a balance budget
  • Providing analytical and practical financial skills in activities of the business including provision of financial training and education in interpretation of financial results and budget where such skills are required
  • Providing effective, efficient and accurate service and advice in relation to handling customer inquiries pertaining to financial information and service activities
  • Developing, implementing and reviewing internal policies and procedures that support the Finance department and its customers
  • Monitoring financial performance of businesses on a monthly basis to ensure early warning of emerging trends in expense, revenue and/or activity variation that will require key executives’ attention. Such trends can be either positive or negative
  • Developing a suite of business reports that are appropriate for managing the business at each layer of the organisation. Such reports are to be relevant to the business activities of respective business lines and be easy to read, simple in form that variations in performance are obvious to the reader
  • Represent Finance in Project working groups and work closely with Business Services, Project Managers and PCMO team


The perfect candidate will have the following

  • Proven experience in quantitative, financial and analytical skills within a corporate environment and extensive experience ideally within government
  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting and provision of management information to stakeholders
  • Ability to contribute to the development, enhancement and maintenance of budgeting and reporting systems and tools
  • Knowledge of project accounting and activity-based costing concepts
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of financial reporting systems including SAP, Oracle, or other large ERP systems
  • Exposure to system implementation or upgrades and process re-engineering would be advantageous
  • Stakeholder engagement and management
  • Experience in business report writing and documentation of processes
  • Knowledge of ACT Government reporting requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting
  • Membership of CPA or CA
