Job description
- $35.80 per hour + super (penalty rates apply)
- Ad-hoc basis - shifts can be as short as 3 hours, though most are 12 hours (Day : 6am-6pm / Night : 6pm-6am).
- Training and nesting period (at least first three shifts) is onsite in Wollongong
- Fully remote after trainer sign off
- Mid-late April start
About the Role
As a Flood Storm Call Operator, you will be the first point of contact for members of the public during severe weather emergencies. You’ll respond to inbound calls via an emergency assistance line, assess the nature and urgency of each situation, gather critical information, reassure callers, and accurately record and escalate cases as needed. Operators must be flexible with availability, as emergencies can occur at any time. Shifts may include overnight, weekend, or extended hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Answer inbound calls from the public seeking emergency assistance or information.
- Log real-time data and escalate calls appropriately in a fast-paced environment.
- Provide outstanding and efficient customer service to every caller.
- Support emergency operations during periods of high call volume.
- Perform general administrative tasks as required.
- Permanent working rights
- Strong customer service skills and a calm, confident phone manner.
- Fast and accurate data entry skills.
- Solid computer navigation and multitasking abilities.
- Flexibility to take shifts across 7 days, including weekends and overnight.
- Willingness to undergo a National Police Check.
- A suitable work-from-home setup including:
- Computer with video capability
- Reliable internet connection
- Phone service (landline or mobile)
- Headset
