3-month Local Laws Officer opportunity to work for a large Council in the Northern suburbs | contract role | $51 per hour- Previous Local Laws experience essential | Experience with TechOne will be considered an advantage.

This role suits a proactive compliance professional who is passionate about community safety, amenity protection and animal welfare, and who can balance enforcement with education and customer service.
About the Role
Reporting to the Team Leader Municipal Laws, you will be responsible for the day-to-day enforcement of Council’s Local Laws and relevant legislation. The position includes responsibilities across general municipal laws, animal management, litter enforcement and fire prevention.
You will work both reactively and proactively, responding to complaints, conducting patrols and inspections, educating the community and taking enforcement action where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Enforce Community Local Laws and relevant legislation including the Domestic Animals Act 1994, Environment Protection Act, Country Fire Authority Act 1958 and Fire Rescue Victoria Act 1958
- Investigate complaints relating to amenity, litter, fire prevention and animal management
- Conduct proactive patrols and inspections across the municipality
- Issue Notices to Comply, permits and infringement notices in accordance with delegated authority
- Prepare briefs of evidence and attend Court when required
- Undertake duties as Assistant Municipal Fire Prevention Officer, including inspections and fire notices during fire season
- Safely collect and transport animals in accordance with legislative and welfare requirements
- Provide clear, accurate advice and education to residents, businesses and visitors
- Build effective working relationships with internal teams, external agencies and the community
- Participate in after-hours and weekend rosters as required (overtime allowances apply)
You are a confident and professional enforcement officer with strong communication skills and sound judgement. You are comfortable working in challenging situations and are committed to achieving voluntary compliance wherever possible.
You will demonstrate:
- Experience in municipal laws, compliance or enforcement
- Strong investigative skills, including interviews and preparation of prosecution briefs
- High-level written and verbal communication skills
- Proven customer service and conflict-resolution capability
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Confidence and competence in animal handling and animal management enforcement
- Certificate IV in Municipal Law Enforcement (or equivalent) or relevant experience
- Current unrestricted Victorian Driver’s Licence
- Experience using Council CRM systems (desirable)
- Animal handling qualifications or experience (desirable)
