Job description
Senior Manager in Financial Accounting | NSW State Government | ASAP - Oct 2024 potential Extension
- $1000 per day + Super
- CBD & WFH Options available
- May lead long-term
- Reporting to CFO
About the role:
Financial Year End (including early close)
• Review of financial statements (early close and final), maybe some preparation and edits
• Preparation and management of timetables and task allocations to ensure all items are completed by required timeframes
• Liaison with the Auditors, management of all information requests and maintaining the relationship
• Preparation of Audit & Risk Committee (ARC) papers related to financial year end (preparation, early close, draft full year and final)
• Collation of financial information for the annual report (including ensuring consistency with any information also within financial statements)
Balance sheet management and ad-hoc
• Month end journal review and approval (eg leases and other balance sheet items)
• Responsible for management of the general ledger (in particular balance sheet accounts)
• Month end processes including reviewing reconciliations and ensuring no long outstanding reconciling items
• Manage consultants disclosures and reporting in operating costs
• General ledger chart of accounts maintenance
Treasury
• Monitoring of Treasury announcements and changes in accounting standards
• Completion of all required Treasury returns
• Participation in any communities of practice focussed on financial accounting and reporting issues
Financial policies and procedures
• Ensure appropriate policies are in place for key accounting treatments (utilise or leverage departmental policies where applicable)
• Review and propose approach for any emerging accounting issues including drafting accounting papers or file notes as required
• Ensure complex transactions are accounted for in accordance with accounting standards and policies (eg service concession assets, revenue recognition etc)
• Liaise with accounting advisors on treatment and technical issues and also work with technical accounting team and the Auditors
Preferred skills/qualities:
- Great communication skills with CA or CPA
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship maintaining skills
- Strong background in Financial Accounting ad hoc duties
- Large Infrastructure, construction, BIG 4 or NSW Government experienced candidate are preferred
