How long have you been with Charterhouse?
“I have been with Charterhouse since 2013”
What is your current role?
“I am divisional manager within the professional support area. I look after Public Sector clients and candidates.”
What is the best thing about working here?
“We get given all of the tools to make it happen, to facilitate our success. And we enjoy ourselves while we are doing it! If you are entrepreneurial and want to run your desk, build relationships, and meet clients and candidates, Charterhouse will do everything to support you.”
If you reflect on your time with Charterhouse, what have you had the opportunity to learn?
“In a nutshell, I have learnt about recruitment. This is my first recruitment role. I first registered as a temp and came in as a receptionist. Then I spent 3 months as a PA for one of the directors here and was offered an opportunity to train as a recruiter. I have learnt how to work with clients and candidates. I have been given a sector and been supported to become an industry expert.”
What’s your team like?
“Our team are great. We are like a family here. Melbourne is a smaller office. I work closely with my director and manage a small team, which is expected to grow. We talk all of the time and share ideas to support each other in our work together, to make us all successful.”
What support do you receive to enable you to be better at your role?
“So much support! If I feel there are events, networking opportunities and extra training that would be useful, they are all supported. We have regular catch ups and lots of opportunity one on one or as a team to work through challenges and identify areas to develop further. I have just recently completed an AGSM course with the University of NSW which was a 1-week residential course for emerging leaders. It was a really fantastic course.”
How would you describe the culture here?
“It’s a work-hard, play-hard environment. We invest time in our work and in building relationships internally and externally. We often spend time together outside of work and get involved in social activities and birthday parties. It’s a fun place to work.”
What is it about recruitment that you love?
“For me it’s building relationships. I also love solving people’s problems, being their sounding board and seeing people grow. I love the pace of it and the results I can achieve.”
What gets you up each and every morning and on the way to work?
“Knowing that I’m going into work and going to be constantly busy, speaking to and meeting new people every day. I get to see my colleagues every day and I love being in Melbourne. I enjoy knowing that I’m making a difference, and I am always learning something new.”
Sum up the Melbourne office in a sentence?
“We are a group of people with a shared focus, all a bit crazy and like a family, all striving to be successful.”
What would be the one thing you would advise someone starting at Charterhouse?
“Come in with an open mind to see how others work and take on their experience. The business will give you the framework and has a strong pedigree in the Melbourne market. Come with some passion to make it happen and be prepared for Friday evening drinks!”
If you’ve worked with other recruitment firms, what does Charterhouse do better than anyone else?
Charterhouse is my first recruitment job!
