Job description

​​​​​​Primary purpose of the role

The Senior Project Officer is responsible for preparing and reviewing briefings, correspondence and other material, as well as coordinating agency responses or projects across a variety of subject matters, often of a complex or sensitive nature.

The Senior Project Officer provides high-quality advice to the Executive Directors to facilitate decision making and clearly communicate the Government’s or agency’s position in relation to issues within cluster portfolio.

Key challenges of the role

Dealing with complex and sensitive political issues, managing multiple work priorities and working towards tight deadlines. The role presents an opportunity to develop a broad understanding of the agency, the wider department, its operations and the interests of key stakeholders.

The role requires high level analytical and problem-solving skills. As well as excellent writing and editing skills communication skills, the ability to develop strong working relationships and to negotiate effectively with people of all levels, including senior executive staff, is required.
