3-month Permits Officer opportunity to work for a large council in the Eastern suburbs | ASAP start

  • Previous Traffic Management within a Traffic Control company and administration experience essential  
  • Represent a Local Government authority providing excellent service to members of the community 
  • ASAP start | 3-month temporary opportunity |Full time hours | To be considered for this role, you must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
Are you detail-oriented, confident in reading and assessing Traffic Management Plans (TMPs), and ready to make a real impact in your local community? This council is seeking a proactive and professional Permits Officer to join our Asset Protection and Permits team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong analytical skills and experience working within a compliance, construction, or local government environment.

You will be responsible for:  

  • Assess a wide range of permit applications and requests for consent, with a strong focus on reviewing Traffic Management Plans to ensure compliance with legislation and safety standards
  • Issue permits and ensures conditions are met in line with Local Laws, the Road Management Act, and other relevant regulations
  • Conduct investigations and respond to community complaints in a professional and solution-focused manner
  • Manage and maintain accurate records of applications, investigations, and permit outcomes
  • Liaise with internal teams, residents, contractors, and public authorities to support safe and lawful activity in the public realm
  • Contribute to process improvements and help maintain up-to-date procedures and registers
 

To be successful you will have:   

  • Proven ability to read, assess, and provide feedback on Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) – this is essential
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Local Government Act, Road Management Act 2004, and Council Local Laws
  • Experience working in a regulatory, civil, construction, or local government setting
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a confident but respectful approach to dealing with the public, contractors, and developers
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and permit management systems
  • Current Victorian Driver Licence
  • To be considered for this role, you must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
Highly Regarded:

  • Completion of Traffic Management and/or Traffic Control courses
  • Experience as a Permits Officer or in a similar compliance-focused role
