Job description

This role is predominantly focuses on relationship management and business partnering. Responsible for relationships with primary stakeholders and works collaboratively with other Financial Services staff to provide effective, efficient and integrated day to day operational financial management and accounting services. The position advises a range of stakeholders across the faculties and divisions for financial matters and contributes to continuous improvement and new initiatives within both wider Financial Services and across business units.

DECISION MAKING AND DELEGATIONS OF AUTHORITY

The position provides operational financial management, advice, analysis, reports, services and solutions to assigned portfolios. The position resolves a wide range of, sometimes complex, financial management and accounting related issues in line with established policy, and will collaborate with more senior colleagues for more unique and complex matters for which limited or no policy guidance may be available. This position also contributes to the review and development of policies and procedures and their application based on operational experience to ensure these reflect not only statutory obligations, but also best implementation practice to meet portfolio requirements. The position is required to work proactively and productively with others to provide a seamless and effective service to support responsible financial management practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Day-to-day relationship management and business partnering including the following:

  • Provide expert assistance and guidance in regards to all of the financial affairs and resources of the divisions;
  • Financial insights and problem solving;
  • Operational management of portfolio activities/budgets; advanced accounting and management reporting using a variety of financial and non-financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs);
  • Interpreting, applying and implementing financial policies, procedures and guidelines;
  • Liaising with other Financial Services staff as directed to provide an end-to-end professional service;
  • Contributes to the development of annual client plans that identify the current key issues and needs for the client portfolio, and the schedule of approved projects and services for delivery throughout the year;
  • Implements service delivery improvements to a client portfolio and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement and the achievement of service excellence;
  • Engages with key stakeholders in the client portfolio to support the implementation of strategic transformation and change initiatives and ensure the successful implementation and realisation of key outcomes.
  • Oversees the resolution of queries from the portfolio on reported results in a timely and customer focused manner.

Advocating and supporting the University strategic plan and objectives.

  • Liaising with other Financial Services staff as directed to provide an end to end professional service;
  • Contributes to the development of annual client plans that identify the current key issues and needs for the client portfolio, and the schedule of approved projects and services for delivery throughout the year;
  • Develops and implements service delivery improvements to a client portfolio and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement and the achievement of service excellence;
  • Engages with key stakeholders in the client portfolio to support the implementation of strategic transformation and change initiatives and ensure the successful implementation and realisation of key outcomes.

Responsible for general financial governance, related compliance and services in a customer focused and timely manner. This may include some of the following:

  • Reviewing RC/PC structure within the general ledger to meet client needs in alignment with central guidelines
  • Appropriate use of the chart of accounts by clients
  • Maintain and champion compliance with Procurement and Finance policies and procedures across divisions
  • Monitoring and leading client compliance for travel and corporate card usage and ensuring anomalies are resolved proactively
  • Manage non research and research funding compliance.

Provide mentoring and coaching contributing to skills and professional development for Financial Services staff.

  • Collaborating effectively and respectfully with peers to contribute to overall delivery of financial services objectives.

Any other duties appropriate to the role classification as required by the supervisor or Finance Director, including the provision of back up for other Financial Services staff as needed.
